1. WHO ARE WE?
African Power is a community-driven initiative dedicated to empowering and connecting the African diaspora in Europe.

2. WHAT PERSONAL DATA DO WE COLLECT?
We only collect data necessary for our activities. Depending on your interaction with African Power, we may collect:
A. Identity Data: First and last name, gender (optional), date of birth (optional), nationality/country of origin.
B. Contact Data: Email address, phone number (optional), city and country of residence.
C. Professional Data: Academic background (degrees, universities), professional experience (titles, companies), sector of activity, skills and expertise, professional status (student, employee, entrepreneur, etc.).
D. Project Data (for African Power Awards): Description of the entrepreneurial project, sector, funding needs, presentation documents (pitch deck, business plan).
E. Navigation Data: Cookies (see our Cookie Policy).
F. Sensitive Data: We do NOT collect sensitive data such as ethnic/racial origin, political/religious opinions, health data, or sexual orientation.
3. WHY DO WE COLLECT YOUR DATA? (PURPOSES)
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
Mapping and census of the African diaspora in Europe.
Organizing networking events (African Power Connect).
Managing the African Power Awards competition.
Sending newsletters and communications.
Responding to inquiries or requests for information.
Improving our content and services through anonymized internal statistics.
Organizing conferences and managing the volunteer team.
4. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
In accordance with the GDPR, we process your data based on:

The performance of a contract (e.g., managing your participation in the African Power Awards).
Our legitimate interest, where applicable.
5. DATA RETENTION PERIOD
We only store your data for as long as necessary for the purposes collected:
Active Community Members: 3 years.
African Power Awards Candidates: 5 years (for archiving and follow-up).
Newsletter Subscribers: Until unsubscription.
Event Participants: 3 years after the last event attended.
Volunteers: Duration of collaboration + 3 years.
Navigation Data (Cookies): Maximum 13 months.
6. WHO HAS ACCESS TO YOUR DATA?
A. Internal Access: Only authorized African Power team members who require access to perform their duties (restricted and secure access).
B. External Service Providers: We never sell your data. It may be shared with technical providers (web hosting, email services, registration management) strictly necessary for our missions, provided they comply with our confidentiality requirements.
C. International Transfers: If data is transferred outside the EU, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
D. What we NEVER do: We never sell, rent, or share your data for third-party commercial purposes.

We commit to responding within 30 days. Please provide your full name, the email used for registration, and the nature of your request.

Security Measures: Restricted access (strong authentication), encryption of sensitive data, regular backups, and team training on GDPR best practices.
Data Breach: In the event of a breach, we will notify the competent supervisory authority within 72 hours and inform you if your rights and freedoms are at risk.
